I KNOW YOU’RE READY FOR A TRIP BUT IS YOUR HAIR READY?
When people go on vacation, they do certain things to get ready so they can look good on the beach – it makes sense.
Let’s face it, sitting on the beach, relaxing and walking around with a pina colada feels good – especially after having the winter blues for far to long. Just walking around in a bathing suit feels absolutely amazing because it gives that feeling of freedom. Finally we are out of the armour that protects us from freezing to death. You get the picture because we live in Texas and it really freezes here hahaha Let me guess – you are planning your trip as you are reading this.
We go out of our way to make sure that our body is ready for the sun and for people to see us in very little clothing. Removing the unwanted hair on our bodies, going to the spa for a manicure and pedicure are probably the first things people think about. But there is one more very important thing that we sometimes forget about – our hair!
SOMETIMES WE THINK OUR HAIR WILL JUST TAKE CARE OF ITSELF.
This is not the case.
Just like our bodies, our hair has endured the hard, long winter. It gets dry and brittle from the cold. It needs TLC the same as our skin, nails and body.
Going to a hair stylist is a must. Actually it is the most important. A stylist has many ways to prepare not only your hair for the sun but your scalp as well. Your scalp is skin too and the sun will get to it the same way it gets to everything else.
Most people don’t realize that 90% of us have scalp issues. A scalp analysis, uses a scope that magnifies your scalp allowing a stylist to see your hair challenges.
Dryness on the scalp in the winter is very common and now we are taking this dry scalp and throwing it under the scorching sun. We are just asking for trouble – sunburn, itchiness and flaking.
THERE ARE THREE ELEMENTS THAT CAN CAUSE OUR HAIR TO GET DRY AND BRITTLE IN THE SUN.
We start with water. Whether it is chlorine from the pool or salt from the ocean – both will dry it out. Second is the air. Blowing air has salt and sand from the beach. Of course, third is the sun. The almighty sun that we crave and desire – it makes us feel so good. However, if not taken seriously, it can do a lot of damage. Our hair can be bleached by the sun, just like we can bleach it with chemical bleach and peroxide – two words that hair salon guests are afraid to hear. But, they will go out and sit in the sun for hours and do the same or even worse damage to their hair.
Stylist can help protect your hair from these elements. As well, we can protect your hair color from being bleached by the sun – whether it is your natural hair color or not. You pay big bucks for your hair to get colored – why let the sun damage it?
Salons have treatments that can be done before you leave on your trip, and products that you can bring with you. Humans were not made to travel from one extreme temperature to another is just hours – without it having an effect on our bodies.
Vacations are important – if you can – please take one. Do what it takes to make this happen once a year, but take the precautions you need to make it enjoyable as possible, so that you can celebrate surviving a long year of hard work and another winter.

Two years!?!? Where does the time go? I swear I just blink and all of a sudden it’s Christmas again. So much has happened in that amount of time and yet sometimes it always feels like such a blur. However there are moments in time that are captured in the midst of that blur that freeze for a moment in time. Carrie and Sals wedding was one of them for me.
I absolutely love what I do for a living at times it can be a little demanding by demanding I mean sometimes people’s expectations are set really high and I can put a lot of pressure on myself, because I want them to be met to their highest standards. I don’t just value my work I value the people behind my work, Especially when they are people that are close to me.
My husband I met Sal several years ago when our boys played football together through PSA we ended up becoming great friends. Now fast fwd After him and his wife got divorced and our boys drifted off from the lil football field to the bigger ones in junior high. We tried to keep in contact the best we knew how but sometimes being a parent includes losing yourself in them, we become a little older and jobs become more demanding. However when we ever did see eachother it was like time never passed! That’s how all friendship should be! However when my kids are full and grown and I’m walking around on a cane I sure hope some of them still love me.
Then along comes Carrie….she lit up a room when she would walk into I mean that smile! My husband and I could see why this relationship bloomed the way it did they just were amazingly happy with eachother and ended up deciding to tie the knot. Jason got asked to be one of the groomsmen and Carrie asked me to do her hair and makeup for the wedding, I was ecstatic because I mean if you haven’t met Carrie well she’s Laid back, carefree, and downright funky; my kinda girl!
As the big day arrives my nerves are getting to me because remember my standards I set are really high and I hate disappointing people! When I walked into that room that bright big beautiful smile made me feel at ease, everyone in the room was laughing and cutting up and just enjoying every moment I mean that’s how every wedding should be. Your about ready to marry the love of your life and your best friend the ride or die of your life, the stress and the small other details shouldn’t get to you as long as the person is staring g right back into your eyes when you reach them at the end of that isle. That girl kept that smile all the way till the moment I walked into that room to the moment after she said her I dos. Not even the cake collapsing broke her spirits, if anything I think hshe r smile got bigger! That’s right the cake kinda toppled over a little bit thankfully having wonderful friends and family it got spruced up so no one would know the difference. We ended the night by dancing it away and laughing until our bellys hurt and for that I am very thankful for you both creating a long lasting memory not only for yourselves but for other that got to bask in the beauty and enjoy that special day with you! I look fwd to watching your love bloom and grow over the years. When we are grey and old and sitting in rocking chairs we can reminisce about the good ole days.
I asked Carrie to write a little bio about how they met and their wedding details and here’s what she had to say:
Sal and I met at work. We worked together and were co-workers. Then friends. Then we fell in love. We both went through huge rough patches – him divorcing his wife and me leaving my abusive relationship. What started out as “nothing serious” turned into happily ever after. Even after we became a couple Sal kept saying “I’ll never get married again.” Fast forward 2 years later…. 🙂 I was working 2 jobs. We weren’t spending much time together. I’d had a miscarriage. Stress was high. We argued a lot. And somehow Sal still had so much love for me. I thought we were on the verge of splitting up. Every Christmas we buy the kids “special ornaments” the kids get to pick out 1 ornament that either means something to them or represents something that they love or are “into” at the moment. Sal surprised me one day with a special ornament that was a crystal heart. But it broke. He kept saying he’d find something else. Christmas morning we woke up like normal. He went to pick up Sal and Bella from their moms. When they came home we ate breakfast and passed out their presents. They opened them and passed out ours we opened them like normal. When all the presents were done Sal said “oh yeah! I forgot I found you your special ornament.” He got up and reached around to the back of the tree. And pulled out a small black box. Then he got down on one knee and told me how much he loved me. And how he’d never wanted to get married again but I’d changed his mind. 🙂 our wedding was so much fun! Great Gatsby. Pearls. Feathers… Turquoise black and gold. We had so many people come there was standing room only. Everything was perfect… Almost. The cake fell… But I told Sal that it wouldn’t be fair if EVERYTHING was perfect at the wedding. 🙂 and of course one of my best friends made me look absolutely gorgeous. 🙂 wouldn’t have been the same without you my beautiful friend. 🙂
Celebrate Life Celebrate the both of you
Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given. Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present. In addition, behavioral and psychological research has shown the surprising life improvements that can stem from the practice of gratitude. Giving thanks makes people happier and more resilient, it strengthens relationships, it improves health, and it reduces stress.
Today I am thankful for God blessing me in so many ways, I am thankful for an amazing family that even through all our ups and downs we stand steady as a rock and support eachother and lift eachother up, I am thankful for each friend that has blessed my life this last year whether near or far or even if it was for a short time you each Help me grow and learn, I am thankful for my second family of clients and that through each and every transition you have decided to stay by my side and support me each one of you have touched my life in one way or another and I am so thankful for all of you!
We celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States today. The day where most people remember to say “Thank you!”
Please remember to say Thank you all the time not just today!
Just maybe, all that gratitude will be contagious.
And just maybe, if we catch it, it will change the way the people view eachother and the world!
Enjoy your loved ones today and everyday!
For weeks now I have struggled writing this blog, deleting and rewriting over a handful of times. Getting often lost into my own thoughts trying to figure out what the best words are. If you know me my thoughts are a scary place to be they never shut off lol. For the last 3 years there has been a handful of changes in mine and our families lives. If you read my blog a year ago you would know that I Believe that change is such a necessary part of life that we need it to grow, it forces us to go beyond our comfort zone into unknown territory that we would like we have a voided if left to our own choice. I’ve always said don’t fear change welcome it! Without change we would not have butterflies.
First year of change I was scared and learned so many lessons that I carry with me, Second year of change I went at it headfirst with so many ideas & goals for I had a vision not exactly sure where it would take me but I was willing to try because if I didn’t try I would have always wondered what if.
As Fall & Winter are upon us yet again for the 3rd year in a row exact same month not only is the weather and our attire changing but so is my surroundings. It is with a sad heart that I let everyone know that as of 11/12 Shears2u will be shutting down the Richardson location and the girls and I will be going our separate ways. We spent a whole year together learning, growing and finding ourselves. Lots of love and laughter happened in that salon and I will be ever greatly to both of them for trying a new adventure with me and though it may not worked out how I envisioned it we don’t have to regret anything because maybe it’s just not where our lives are supposed to go! I wish them nothing but happiness and success and hope that we can continue our friendship outside of the salon.
As for me and my crazy world of change, my next adventure is going to be fun and exciting and I hope you continue this journey with me. I may not know where it’s going exactly or where it’s going to end up. However even though I am venturing out on my own, I do know I am not walking this journey alone and one of the biggest life lessons I learned over these last few years is to just let go and let God and enjoy the ride!
Thank you to all of my clients(family) in my life that have stuck by my side it has been an honor to be your Hairdresser. I will now be located in Rowlett, for some that is a further distance and I understand if you can’t make it. Please let me know and I will be happy to refer you to one of my many amazing hairdresser friends that can accommodate you. If you have any questions about my location please feel free to email, call or text me.
As the month of April nearly comes to an end, we wrap up the month with a holiday that’s near and dear to my heart……April 30th “Hairdresser Appreciation Day❤️” Please everyone take a moment to write it on your calendar so as of next year you can take a moment to tell your hairdresser how much you appreciate them!
You see, if you’ve ever walked out of a salon with a spring in your step and a smile on your face it’s probably because you feel more beautiful, a little more sassy or perhaps more worthy. Each and every time a hairdresser picks up his/her shears or touches a head of hair, they do so with love in their heart and a desire to make everyone feel beautiful. Hair is their canvas, their clay, their masterpiece. The love of creating and the love for all things beautiful, guides their every movement.
No other thing in my life has shaped me as much as the beauty industry. I love being a hairdresser because I can change someone’s day or life even just by spending a short amount of time with them. It’s about growing a relationship with your client by listening and catering to their needs, being sincere and truly caring. It’s about using art and talentto achieve a look that gives someone not only outer beauty that helps grow confidence to help them achieve goals while helping you reach yours. Being a hairdresser means truly loving people by giving them a bit of positivity for today and leaving them with a gleaming Ray of hope for tomorrow. If anyone reading this post today can relate please share this with your coworker, your mentor, your cheerleader and most importantly your hairdresser! Tell them that you love them, why you appreciate them and that they do make a difference. Spread the love to the loving hands that give you so much!
Happy Hairdresser Appreciation!
When asked to tell me about how they met this is what she had to say,
it was love at first sight. From the day we met we knew that this was
something that neither of us had ever known. From that day we have
never spent a day apart. She was my heart and I was hers. Sounds
crazy but it’s as close to perfect as you can get! She is my perfect
imperfection as I am to her. We knew we wanted to be married but never
thought it would be possible. However our dream came true in June of
2015. On August 12, 2015 while we were in Destin, FL, she gave me a
surprise proposal on the beach with my family there with us!! Of
course I said yes!!! She had been planning this day for almost 2
months and with the help of my family she pulled it off! Which by the
way is hard to do with me! The planning for our perfect night started
and on November 21, 2015 it happened! A beautiful masquerade ball
wedding happened with our friends and family by our side to help us
celebrate our love and future together!
Javier and I met through his roommate at the time and just hit it off. I would attend their parties and always find myself drawn to Javier all night as he and I would crack jokes and make each other laugh. After living together for four and a half years, he finally popped the big question last Valentine’s Day and I said yes (though, first he tricked me a little with a pair of earrings that were in a box that looked identical to the engagement ring box)! We had originally planned on a May 2016 wedding but once we found out in November that we were having a baby, we threw things into overdrive. I wore my mother’s wedding dress that we had modified and just finished altering it, so we wanted to make sure I could still fit into the dress. Plus, a lot of people have more vacation time around the holidays, so it was a win-win to bump the date up between Christmas and the New Year. I was recommended to your company by my wedding planner, Megan Weeks, who has been a long time customer of yours. I’ve always admired Meg’s hair and once I saw some photos of the work that y’all have done, I knew I wanted to come in for a trial. Both Janet and Paige are total sweethearts and made me feel incredibly comfortable as we talked about our love for hair, make up, and our upcoming weddings (congrats on yours for next year Paige!) The hairstyle was something new that Janet had not done before for a wedding but she devoted her time to mastering and perfecting and completely blew my guests and I away at how beautiful it turned out! I absolutely loved her work!
Susie was referred to Shears2u by her wedding coordinator Megan Weeks from http://forevereventsandweddings.com/ When we met her for her trial run she had about 3 weeks till her wedding, now thats a short time for a hairdresser to meet someone and be able to make magic happen however the soon to be Bride and Groom had decided to bump up there wedding by a few months, So they had a lot on there plate with having to do months of wedding planning in only a few weeks…. We were determined to make sure she was 100% satisfied though. With one of our creative employees she was able to help walk her through and ease at least one thing off her plate. She had brought her mothers flower crown that her mother had worn at her own wedding many years ago, just to get an idea of what she would look like with her own that was going to be made out of baby’s breath. Susie was going to wear her mothers wedding dress, but of course altering it to more modern style. We were so excited to see the dress in person. Susie was so sweet, and funny she also knew exactly what she wanted done and how she was going to make it happen this woman had dreams!
Congrats and Shears2 the both of you
We wish you many years of happiness Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your big day!
The first meeting:
I got the phone call from her mom about her daughters upcoming big day, as most mothers know this can be a time of joy and sorrow all at the same time. Excited to help your daughter plan one of the biggest days of her life but yet watching your baby girl transform into a woman of her own. Oh these are the days of me having younger girls that I think far into the future and wonder how will I react, will I cry? Of course! Will I be stressed? Pinterest or whatever app in the future will help with that one! Will she want my help at all? I sure hope so. Heathers mother Margaret sounded so calm and full of love and joy in her voice I knew this was going to be a wedding to remember.
I met Heather on a beautiful day in Texas and she was as sweet as can be, her mother did an amazing job with this one. What was not to love? I finished that day hoping and praying that she was just as much in love with me as I was with her. I mean her natural beauty was on point, so there was no miracle hands needed on this job!
As I walk into the room on her big day her bridesmaids made us feel at ease and lending a helping hand in any which way they could. As they enjoy getting ready together snapping selfies, sipping on drinks and truly laughing out loud about past days reminiscing, it brought so much joy to my heart. One of the many things I love about weddings is the true bond not only between a mother and a daughter but of the bride and her bridesmaids.
As we finalize the finishing touches of her and makeup it’s almost time! Not a sweat or a nerve came out of this beauty she was calm as can be, and how can you not be as everyone surrounds you reaching there hands to say a prayer for her and her future husband! Now that my job is done I sneak away knowing that she is left in such great hands as I drive home I drift into a dream of, what will my daughters weddings be like?
Thank you Heather and Blake for sharing your special day with me

Everyone experiences mild to moderate dry scalp at some point, but for some it’s a chronic problem, especially this time of year, as the weather zaps moisture out of our hair and scalp.
Since winter can bring the dreaded dry scalp or worsen an existing scalp condition, we’ve compiled a list of treatment alternatives to clear your scalp and keep dryness at bay. These solutions should work for you if your condition is truly dry scalp and not a more serious problem like dandruff (which is usually caused by oily scalp) or eczema (which may call for a prescribed medicated shampoo).
Follow these remedies for removing stubborn dryness and normalizing your scalp to regain bounce, smoothness, and a healthy head of confidence.
What Is Dry Scalp
According to the Mayo Clinic, dry scalp is more prevalent in winter and is often marked by small white flakes caused by cold weather, excessive dry heat or diet. One may also experience some itch and tightness with a dry scalp (but not excessive itching which is often caused by dandruff or eczema). Sometimes, you will find some flakes of dead skin, like dandruff. However, dry scalp is not dandruff. Your hair can also look lifeless, frizzy, dull, and easily break and fall out. Dry scalp can even lead to hair loss, if this condition is left untreated.
Scalp Massage The key to properly shampooing a dry scalp is in the prep. Massage your scalp with a soft pure boar bristle brush before washing to remove buildup of oil, hair products and skin cells. Pure boar bristles are designed to lift away dirt and dust and distribute the natural oil from your scalp.
DIY Hair Masks An oil treatment for your scalp will help to deeply moisturize your scalp and lock-in that natural moisture balance. I recommend using coconut oil as a highly effective intense natural conditioner for the hair and scalp. Rub directly onto dry scalp and hair, put a shower cap on and leave for a minimum of 45 minutes for a deep moisture mask. You may also refer to some Homemade Coconut Oil and Honey Hair Mask for an effective, pleasurable treat for your hair and scalp. Another home remedy involves mixing equal parts apple cider vinegar with water, spraying the solution onto the scalp, and waiting at least 15 minutes before rinsing. Regardless of the mask you choose, try keeping with a mask once a week until you’ve noticed an improvement–and you will!
Detox/Moisturizing Shampoo You may have to experiment or alternate between shampoos, but professional detoxing and/or quality moisturizing shampoos can make all the difference. For a good detox, try Tea tree lavender mint from Paul Mitchell For excellent moisturization.
Medicated Shampoo Sometimes a medicated shampoo is necessary for stubborn dryness. Try Sebamed Everyday Shampoo, developed by Dermatologists and botanically-based to protect the natural balance of your scalp. Gentle enough for daily use, this medicated shampoo will not strip natural oils or irritate the scalp like soap-based shampoos.
Natural Shampoo Tea Tree, a natural ingredient, has been proven to remove oil buildup.
Topical Spot Treatments
Daily Hair Lotion Over washing can leave your scalp dry, itchy and flaky.
Beauty Tip In a pinch, try Burt’s Bees Hand Salve. Designed for severely dry hands, the botanical oils and beeswax in this amazing skin salve can also alleviate any irritation or flare-ups along the hairline.
Internal Remedies and Diet
Fatty Acids A diet rich in essential fatty acids (like flaxseeds, walnuts and salmon) and minimizing coffee and alcohol can help alleviate dry scalp.
Kelp Kelp, a seaweed, is an excellent source of essential and trace minerals needed for proper functioning of many bodily systems. Kelp is especially high in iodine, which is known to support hair growth and scalp healing. To be safe, talk to a doctor or dietitian about using kelp for scalp health, and check the label of your kelp supplement for the exact iodine content.
Drink More Water Keeping yourself hydrated with water is a complete skin savior especially when it comes to your scalp. Adding some serious hydration to your diet will balance out scalp issues and is the most effective, inexpensive and easiest thing one can do!
