Kevin & Nika’s wedding

I have been extremely blessed with some amazing brides I got to work with over this past year. One of the most recent was such a joy and light to be around even on a day that can sometimes be overwhelming nerve wracking and just plain “hurry up I wish it would just get here already!” Not Nika she was was the most low key, calm, enjoyed every single minute of it even when their were some minor setbacks, didnt stop this bride from having one of the best days of her life. You see Nika and I go wayyyy back, back into the time of “visible changes” days and boy did she change from teenage years into adulthood I watched this remarkable, smart, beautiful girl blossom into a woman! Very career oriented she set her limits high and pursued being a teacher along with a new career came a new adventure for her, an adventure I wouldnt get to hear about as often as before considering we would no longer be working under the same roof. However I would get to see her often on those rare 2-3 times a year she was ready for her “micro” trim and Kevin became an often topic of conversation, so often I knew that this man just might be the one! Here is their love story…….

Kevin and Nika met through their good friends Katie and Sean Springs. For Kevin, it was love at first sight. Kevin pursued Nika for about 8 months before she would agree to go on a date with him. From that point forward, the two of them were inseparable. They knew after about 4 months of dating that they wanted each other for eternity. After dating for over a year, Kevin proposed at his families beach house surrounded by those he loves dearly. Then the planning began.

The wedding day couldn’t have come any sooner. We were ready to start our lives together as husband and wife. We were so excited to share our special day with all of the people we love the most! We can now look back on this special moment in our lives and know that is was absolutely perfect!

Nika says it best “absolutely perfect” because these two were truly meant to be, the smile on both of their faces lit up the room everytime you walked into it! I wish them nothing but the best in their future as husband and wife and look forward to watching another chapter happen behind my chair!

Season of Change

As the leaves begin to turn colors and the nights get a little bit cooler and I look into the nights sky dreaming of my next adventure in life, I stop to think about how we transition into seasons; for some it might be the decor in your house, the new wardrobe in your closet, the food that we cook, the flowers that we plant, and for some it’s the transition into the next phase of your life.

I go into this fall season ready for a new change. For many of you that know me know that I like change, from the way I do my hair, to the crazy redecorating my house all the time, to my mind changing every 30seconds etc. I believe that Change is an interesting word.  For some people it represents fear and terror, while for other people it represents adventure and excitement.  In my experience as a hairdresser/therapist I have found that more people tend to fear change, rather than embrace it.  As I have had the chance to talk with clients about their fears over the years, I have found that the reasons they fear change vary.  Some of the reasons that have been shared are:

  • Some fear the unknown that change represents, especially when they have a lack of information.  Often times if there is no information human nature is to let the monsters in your head start to fill in the gaps with worst case scenarios, which leads to a major increase in a person’s anxiety level.
  • Some fear that change will represent a loss of some kind.  A loss of a friend, or coworker, or position, or title, or even the fear of losing their own job.
  • Some fear that change will force them to leave their comfort zone.  We get so used to the routine of the day to day and the sense of security that gives us in our life, that the thought of a change will interrupt that sense of security, and leave us feeling lost and unsure.
  • Some fear that change might bring successes that they are not prepared to handle.  New found success can bring more responsibility, more stress, and an increase in the expectations others place upon them.

A year ago I did something I feared which was leaving a company I called home for well over 9 years, they had taught me so much about goals, fashion, dedication etc……they had pointed me in a direction that I will be ever so grateful for. Then change of season happened and I made my next adventure working for a man that in the past year has taught me more about life and how to just enjoy it and love it for that I will be eternally grateful. In a years time I was overwhelmed with the amount of love and support I received and no longer did I have fear.  In life you will realize their is a role for everyone you meet some will test you, some will use you, some will love you and some will teach you. But the ones that are truly important are the ones that bring out the best in you they are the rare and amazing people who remind you why it’s worth it.

Though I may change often and at times not exactly know where my next adventure may start I take life with such a grain of salt and enjoy the ride! Come join me on the next season of my life, Starting November 1st  I will be opening my own place @Mattison ave salon suites and spa in Richardson tx. If needing appt please email me @tiffanysmagnolia@gmail.com or call or text. Change is such a necessary part of life.  We need it to grow.  Change forces us to go beyond our comfort zone into unknown territory that we would likely have avoided if left to our own choice.  Don’t fear change, welcome it!  Change is going to happen, so why not greet it head on with a huge smile on your face and an excitement for what it will teach you.  Be happy to see change and be grateful that it will make you grow and evolve into a better, stronger, and wiser person.  And, never forget that change is what turns a simple caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly!

God Bless yall and thank you for being a part of my life!

Craig & Mallory’s Wedding

Its amazing how at just the right time in your life you cross paths with certain people on a wim and they become part of your world more than you could have ever imagined.  I will never forget the day I recieved a phone call from a makeup artist that I sometimes work with saying that she had this bride in need of a hairstylist for her wedding, her old hairdresser had passed away, such an unfortunate event brought me to meeting Mallory.  As her and her mom walked into the salon to do a trial run, my nerves kinda got the best of me, sometimes meeting a new bride can be a great experience or can go the total opposite and I end up having bridezilla in my chair……any hairdresser can attest to a bridezilla is the last thing we want in our chairs especially the free spirted let me do what I thinks going to look best on u hairdresser!  Mallory and her mom Sharon were far from that, they were the most down to earth caring people I know. After a trial, and boudoir pics it was finally time for the big day, as I walk into the hotel room I was surrounded by PINK anybody that knows me, well lets just say its kinda my favorite color, this girl had me at the first sight of pink!  I was surrounded that whole morning by so much love and laughter between friends and family it made my heart swell, today was going to be an Amazing day.

My favorite part of my job during weddings is getting to know them and their story! Heres their love story………

The story of how Craig and I met started at work. He is from Michigan and moved to Texas to work at TDIndustries where I was currently working. He was extremely shy, which I am the total opposite. I tried dropping hint on Facebook or try and run into him at work but he would run away. lol Finally he got the hint that I was into him. And he finally asked me to be his girlfriend. We dated for a year then moved in together! He finally popped the question on 7/13/2013 which of course I said yes! So then the crazy wedding planning started! Early that year my long time hairdresser passed away. So I was kind of in a panic to find an amazing hair dresser who could handle my massive amount of hair! So I started my search at work. A coworker new of a makeup artist so I gave her a call. When talking to her I asked if she knew of anyone who did hair. And she mentioned Tiffany! We set up a trial run which went fabulous! And I was finally relieved to know I was in good hands with my hair! She has just a positive attitude and always had a smile on her face which I loved! The big day finally came and it turned out amazing! I finally found my new hair dresser who know how to handle my hair and my crazy mind of always wanting some different when I come in lol

So she says she finally found her new hairdresser to handle her crazy mind, what she doesnt realize is it takes a crazy mind to handle another crazy mind lol. An unfortunate event took place when she lost her old hairdresser, I however gained not only one amazing client but I gained the whole family and they sure do brighten my day everytime I see them.  This is one of just the many reason I love what I do!

One Brides Cinderella Story!

Allison and Keith met on Christmas Eve 2013 at a lunch hosted by a mutual friend. They connected on Facebook and had their first date January 1 2014. They’re romance was a wonderful time filled with hockey games, concerts, movies, and traveling. Keith proposed June 7, 2014 before the George Strait final concert in Dallas. Allison definitely “checked yes”! They continued to fall deeper in love and moved in together in August of that year. Over the summer they set a wedding date for June 9 2015 in St. John USVI as it was a great place to get married. The next few months were spent booking and planning a few details for the destination wedding. A few friends even said they wanted to fly in and join in the celebration. During the holidays in 2014 many of those plans would come to a halt as Allison’s health became worse and after a series of tests they would find out she had stage IV lung cancer. They were beyond devastated but kept their strong faith in God to heal. Keith immediately wanted to marry Allison so they decided to quickly plan a wedding to be held in Dallas, this way many family and friends that had been supporting them through the cancer diagnosis would be able to join. The wedding took place on Valentines Day 2015. The weather was perfect and many vendors stepped in quickly to help make their wedding day special!

I was one of those very blessed vendors that got to help make their wedding day special. About 2 weeks prior Valentines day I was at work when a client contacted me about this amazing story of this woman and her soon to be husband. So when contacted by Allison I knew there was no way I could turn this amazing love story down! I moved a few things around so that I could accommodate her in a timely manner. A few texts/emails that were exchaged within that next week had me even more anxious to meet this incredibly brave strong woman. February 14th 2015 Allison walks into my salon glowing with the most amazing smile, even after just been through some recent extreme treatment. As she starts to describe to me what she was looking for which I believe was inspired by a well known Mrs Carrie Underwood(Love that womans hairstyles)  remember I had never met this woman or even put my fingers through her hair once. As I say my quick hairstylist prayer, “Dear Lord bless these hands extra special today this beautiful soon to be bride deserves my best work Amen!” As we have a wonderful conversation and as I place the finishing touches onto my canvas she looks into the mirror and all I see is this amazingly beautiful bride grinning from ear to ear and glowing even more so than when she entered through the door. As I hold back the tears of sadness for what she has to go through and the joy I brought to someone by making them feel even more beautiful than they already are, I realize I am thankful for having this amazingly strong woman come into my life and show me how much love and strength play a big part in getting through even the toughest of times.

A few weeks went by and I thought of this woman a few times and hoped she was well. Till one day I recieved a text “Hi Tiffany this is Allison you did my hair on Valentimes Day for my wedding wanted you to have a picture. I lit up as soon as I saw her pictures, beautiful not only on the outside but on the inside as well. Thank you Allison for allowing me to be such a big part of your special day and also thank you deeply for sharing your story with me and so many others I wish you and Keith a world full of happiness and you are in my prayers each and everyday! Cinderella stories get me everytime I guess Im just a sucker for love!

Will you do my hair for my wedding?

Weddings can be stressful, chaotic, sometimes I  even see people just want to pull their hair out, or sometimes they make me want to pull my own hair out! Then there are those weddings that I love being a part of from the moment I walk into the door all the way up to watching them walk away to say their “I DO’s.” Ahhhhh this brings me back to the thought of clients weddings, I’ve been asked  to do many weddings from complete strangers and I loved every moment of those but there are those few and far between that have been with me thru thick and thin as their hairstylist.  We’ve watched eachother grow as a person throughout the years even though its only every 6 to 8 week but hey thats more than I see some of my closest friends.  We’ve been through marriages, jobs, kids and even divorces together.

Will you do my hair for my wedding? Its kinda like being proposed too, actually I think I did have one client get down on one knee and ask me to be their hairdresser for their wedding. Of course I said YES!  When a client that I have known for years asks me to do her wedding I immediately feel so privileged.  I mean I know I have been been making you gorgeous for years but thats a special day that one day that its all about you and the focal point other than your dress is your hair and makeup! No pressure Tiffany no pressure at all.

I arrive at the hotel praying the whole way up the elevator “Dear Lord, you have blessed these hands so that I can work what some would call miracles. Today can you extra bless them?” I arrive at the door and walk into a room so full of peace and quiet bridesmaids helping the bride at every notion. Sipping on some mimosas listening to music not a worry in the world  and just taking this beautiful day and breathing it in. This people is why I love doing what I do! Thank you for allowing me in your hearts and lives I thank each and everyone of you for believing in me and my talents!

Hairstylists Bring hope to Cancer Patients

Hair styling industry plays an important role with those suffering from cancer. Hair stylists touch the lives of cancer patients in a very special way. We literally touch people daily with the services we perform. I recently was visited by a client of mine and her mother, though I never knew the true extent of how far her cancer had spread, I knew the hair loss part had been a huge factor for her. As I helped her daughter get ready for her wedding she couldn’t fathom what to do with her hair because she had already been losing it already! However that didn’t let her down she was about to see her baby girl walk down the isle. Hair or no hair this woman was strong, beautiful, someone I looked up to and admired. Over the next few years she dealt with the cancer and is now at stage 4 colon cancer, my heart goes out to her and her family! Recently I was visited by this beautiful family, knowing that her daughter had been growing her hair out for a good cause.  To have her in my chair with her mother right beside her with smiles on their faces and in their hearts it had made my whole day!

“My mother has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer, it has now spread to her liver. She has been struggling for about 5 years. I  wanted to donate my hair to women like her who have lost their hair which is one of the most important things to a females identity in my opinion. My hope is to give my hair for a wig to a woman struggling just like my mother. ~Kelly

Working with her it reminded me of a story about a young cancer survivor that I had the privilege of meeting years ago.  I had received a message from the front desk asking me if I would be interested in going to the hospital to cut a patients hair that had cancer, of course I gladly accepted.  On the drive there I seem to remember every emotion running through my body, not knowing what to expect.  I arrive at the room and their in front of me was a beautiful 15 year old, her room had been decorated with everything that she loved, her hair  brushed below her shoulders as she looks up at me I can see the pain in her eyes. I mean how could you not, she was a dancer and her hair was her #1 accessory, at that moment she realized I was there to take away the one thing that  that made her feel feminine. I had shaved many cancer patients hair before but for some reason this one hit home, maybe because of how young she was and I had children of my own, I saw the hurt not only in her eyes but in the mother and fathers eyes that stood across the room. Hold it together Tiffany, you need to be strong!  As my clippers slowly glazed across her scalp, tears stream down her beautiful face and my heart hurts for a bit, until the last hair hit the floor she reached up and felt her bald scalp and with tears in her eyes looks at me and says, thank you so much it no longer hurts! As I got into my car tears stream down my face, its moments like these that we take for granted each and everyday, its moments like these that I hug and kiss my children a little more each and everyday!   Reminds me again how the little things we do make a big difference in the lives of those afflicted with this terrible disease.

Sounds odd doesn’t it? Visits to a hair stylist, being the bright spots in a cancer scenario. But the intimacy of the stylist-client relationship is legendary; quadruple its intensity when the client is newly bald and the hairdresser is one of the few privy to the knowledge.

As a hairdresser, I know the blessings you receive in being an intimate part, in touching lives in such a healing way. It’s an AWESOME job!!

Just when the catepillar thought the world was over it became a butterfly.

Change!

We don’t like it. We fear it, but we can’t stop it from coming. We either adapt to change or we get left behind. And it hurt to grow, anybody whol tells you it doesn’t is lying. Here’s the truth…..the more things change, the more they stay the same. Sometimes change is good and sometimes its everything!

Two months ago I cleaned out my station and walked out of a place I had called home for well over 9 years. We all knew this day was coming, the question was when??? Fear had taken over me, the sudden change, would I be succesful, would I regret it, would I be hated for wanting the change……My problem was I was thinking to much about it until that day two months ago when I was given the opportunity to either fall or fly and I chose to fly!

Switching my brain towars what lies ahead, my heart began to hurt a bit, this was a place where, when I moved I felt so lonely. Feelings that are so far removed from my experience they seem comical. I have developed friendships that I will keep forever I have inside jokes with my girls that will fuel even my darkest days. The laughter that rings in my heart when assesssing the most ridiculous of human behavior, that will sustain.

This was a place where my clients felt at home. Time and time again for the past 9 years they spoke of the comfortable and laid back enviornment. The loved the flexability and lets be honest they loved me(not vain at all lol) They loved how the salon supported me and made me have goals and gave us opportunities of many sorts.

I had such close bonds with so many that I knew, distance and time would make us grow apart. I was afraid of how they would pass judgement. Or at least that was what I was telling myself, I had to reliaze that I was doing  this for nobody else but myself. I needed to spread my wings and fly! When I recieved a text message from one of my fellow co-workers asking if I was still doing her hair for her wedding. I was in complete shock, I thought I would be shunned out from people I loved so very much, and when she told me of course who else would do my hair.  At that moment I knew I was going to be ok on my own.  I had support not only from my clients but from fellow coworkers that loved me for me!

It has truly been my pleasure to be a part of this family. I take away lessons and skills that will fuel my next adventure, and I have learned by example from each of you, how to do it right. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity and for letting me go and encouraging me to fly. Thank you for you tireless energy, your eyerolls and high fives at just the right time in the day. Thank you for the crazy, the off the wall and the care that you took with my clients when I wasnt able to. I appreciate each and everyone of you more than you will ever know!

Whatever your dreams may be, dont be scared follow them, you will have more support in your corner than you ever thought possible! The sky is the limit and you are its butterfly.

Jake & Brittany’s Wedding

One of my many passions is doing bridal parties, there is something about walking into a hotel room or someones house and you can see the bright smiles across peoples faces a glow of happiness lets say for the one particular day peoples deepest happy emotions are shown whether it be nerves cause they are so excited, tears of joy from the brides family cause they feel like they are giving away their baby forever!  In all actual reality weddings bring people closer together its almost like one big family reunion, or a big party for a group of friends that haven’t seen each other for awhile. As we get older our lives form differently we get wrapped up in the day to day things of life work, spouse, kids, friends etc. so we often dont get that extra time we used to spend with certain loved ones, so when a wedding invitation comes in the mail and ask you to RSVP, respond Yes Im going cause who doesnt want to see a room full of people with big smiles on their face dancing the night away, enjoying eachothers company, and almost forgetting about our daily routine of life!  I was blessed on Sept 14th 2014 to be a part of one of my husband and I closest friends Brittany & Jake, to be asked to do her hair and makeup and her bridesmaids I was completely honored because they had traveled all the way to Mexico back in 2011 to be a part of our wedding day!  Thank you for letting me be a big part of your Special day it meant the world! XOXOXO to you both and I wish you nothing but happiness. Heres to many more years of friendship!

It will save you time each morning as it will be easy to style and suit your lifestyle

You can find Hair-spiration everywhere, from runway models, Beauty blogs, and one of my favorites Pinterest! With this blog I will try my best to give you the best updates on whats in and even some hair tutorials you can try on yourself.

Health is a whole new discovery for me; as I watch my children grow each and every day I realize how important it is for my husband and I to be here for them for the long haul and the only way for us to do that is to care about our health so we started on this amazing journey about 4 months ago with Advocare, carvajalfitfamily.com and so far the rewards are paying off, not only are we starting to look better but we also feel better and thats what matters. With this blog you can keep track of our journey with us and I will post things that can help benefit you as well.
